With many of today's modern housing being heated by a centrally heated system using radiators, often the fireplace is missing from the living rooms of many home owners. For the person who loves traditional styles this can leave a room looking like it has something missing so methods have been used to re-install a traditional fireplace back into our homes without the need for a chimney or a flue system. Using a fake fireplace you can re-create the look of an open fire without actually having the mess of cleaning and lighting it every morning, but visually it can still give you something to snuggle in front of on a cold night while the central heating does the work.

Fake fireplaces are available ready made with a traditional surround and mantle, they mostly incorporate artificial logs that are lit by electricity so that they appear to glow and do look very realistic. Many home owners will build their own fake fireplaces as the components required are safe to use by any budding DIY enthusiast and they do not need to be checked by a certified tradesman. The fake fireplaces also have the advantage of being completely portable, all of the manufactured models require a plug socket to power them so any room in the house can be used to position your fire, even if you move house you can take your fireplace with you. This can save a lot of money as you do not have to spend twice to have the same look in your new home. There are gas models available that do not require a chimney but have built in vents, these fireplaces are completely safe and do not emit harmful fumes.

The artificial log baskets are supplied with a realistic glowing flame effect and some models will even give you a crackling sound as well as the flame to finish off the natural effect of logs burning in your fireplace. Surrounds are available in a marble effect or a natural wood effect and most of the suppliers can provide the necessary extras such as log buckets and companion sets to finish off the look you are after.
