Gel fireplaces are fast becoming popular because of their portability and their fuel supply. They operate off a simple canister of an alcohol-based gel. This canister of fuel will burn for approximately three hours. This is not to be considered as a heat source but is purely for ornamental values.
As one can see with the gel fireplace working from a gel fuel there is not the mess incurred as that, which is found with wood burning stoves. You do not have to worry about obtaining the wood and storing it. In addition, there is no soot build up as there is with the wood burners.
Gas fireplaces have many advantages over wood. The problem here however is that once you decide where the gas fuel is going to be fed from then that is where your fireplace is going to have to go. These have to be vented however; this can be done through the wall as opposed to through the chimney.
Electric fireplaces are much along the same concept as the gel fireplaces at least from the portability standpoint. The issue with these types of fireplaces is the cost of electricity to run them. In addition, these fireplaces tend to give more of a glow than a flame. Although there are more superior type models.
Then there are fireplace log heaters, which are in essence grate heaters. These consist of a tube that goes under the logs and creates warm that is distributed with a fan. These only have to improve the efficiency of a traditional fireplace so the same drawback exists.
When it comes to being cost effective clean and easy to install the gel fireplace certainly takes the leadership in these areas. Weighing this out with how affordable the gel fireplaces are its no wonder they are becoming the favoured way of achieving the ambience of a fireplace cost effectively.
