A gel fireplace is no different from any other fireplace in one respect. They all need something to fuel the flame. With the gel fireplace, of course it is the gel. One might think that one gel is the same as the other, but just as one type of wood is different from another, the same applies to the gel.
- Woodlanddirect.com offer the Real Flame brand. It will burn up to 3,000BTUs. The Real Flame is made from top of the line ingredients such as isopropyl alcohol and carbon dioxide. It is smokeless, no odor and no dangerous fumes. The one feature about the Real Flame is that it will produce some heat although gel fireplaces are not designed for heat giving purposes. Woodlanddirect.com offers this fuel in bulk and carries almost every type of gel fireplace accessory you would require.
- Electricfireplacesource.com doesn't offer the Real Flame gel fuel but the Fire Glow brand. This is a USA made fuel where there are higher regulations instituted. It only contains organic thickeners with water and omits the use of Menthol or MeK. It is a little bit cheaper in price than the real Flame. In some products electricfireplacessource.com may have some slightly better pricing as opposed to some of the other online distributors of gel fireplace products.
- Northlineexpress.com carries the Sunjel line of gel fuel. This is probably one of the most least expensive ones on the market. Northline has a fairly good selection of gel fuels and seems to offer more competitive pricing.
When you are shopping around for gel fuel look for those sites that are running sales. If you buy in quantity, you will usually find some great savings. This way you may want to try several different types of gel then decide on your favourite.
