"What to avoid, what to do"
There are no differences as far as safety and efficiency go when one is choosing a gel fireplace. You will find that there are some that are more suited style wise for the outdoor atmosphere. Other than that it really comes down to your personal choice.
Things that you may want to consider when buying your outdoor gel fireplace is
- Where exactly are you going to locate it. If you are building an outdoor patio type room then you want your fireplace to be as a focal point. This will determine the size and style that you are going to pick.
- You want to consider the size as well. If you have a small area such as a balcony for example then you would most likely want a smaller type unit. You don’t want one that is going to look out of place or is taking up the whole space.
- As a cost saver you may want to consider purchasing an indoor/outdoor unit. This way you can enjoy your fireplace all year around. If you are going this way though be sure that you buy a unit that is going to be aesthetically attractive to both atmospheres it will be in.
What you want to avoid with your outdoor gel fireplace is
- Buying one that the material will not hold up as well if you live in climates that have a great deal of variation.
- Thinking that your outdoor fireplace is going to provide some type of heat. There is very little heat ejected from these units and their primary purpose is purely decorative.
- You want to avoid leaving it exposed to the elements as well. Make sure you buy a protective cover for it and ideally set it up in a protected area.
