Wood stoves have been around for many years, they were first produced way back in the late 1800's and came in a variety of forms but their working principle was the same. Often on the old western films we caught glimpses of a wood stove heating log cabins, they were the round and tall models, their heat output must have been very minimal. Nowadays they are being produced in their thousands and their designs altered to keep up with modern demands. They can now produce a higher heat output and are often chosen as a form of heating, not only for their looks, but also for their cheap fuelling method.

Most of the older models were crafted from cast iron and were very heavy, nowadays as different metals have been researched they can be much lighter however many people still go for the traditional design, in some cases original models have been given a face lift and still work efficiently.

As expected, wood stoves will require a flue to release fumes given off by the wood if they are used indoors, outdoor models that are created for patios etc. will just have openings at the top and bottom to create an air flow to keep the fuel burning. Using these stoves means that if you have a constant supply of cheap wood your heating bills can be drastically reduced, imagine living near a furniture factory and buying cheap off cuts that they can no longer use.

The aesthetic value should not be forgotten, they are often supplied with glass fronts giving the owner to sit in front of them on a cold winter night, watching the flames and listening to the wood crackle.

They do require cleaning on a regular basis as ash build up will cause problems if not kept in check but this does not take long and should not put off any potential buyer.
